Metrodome Group released a statement recently regarding the distribution deal for Fifty Dead Men Walking starring Jim Sturgess.

The film will be released in March 2009, catering to both the specialised and multiplex circuits due to it’s star draw and high thriller elements. Early predictions from positive trade and consumer press reviews indicate strong cross over/ mainstream box office returns. They also strongly predict awards attention for the incredible performances, in particular Jim Sturgess, who will almost certainly be considered for BAFTA recognition in 2010.

Peter Urie of Metrodome Distribution comments, “I am delighted that we will be releasing FIFTY DEAD MEN WALKING in our territory and to be working with HandMade and Future Films. This is an excellent film and really delivers the goods as a nail-biting thriller with a career-best performance from Jim Sturgess. We believe the film will be a shot of adrenalin to the UK box office next year and completely fits in with our goal to work with the very best high quality independent films.”

Jim Sturgess as part of the cast: After seeing Jim Sturgess play an IRA spy in Fifty Dead Men Walking, he can probably do justice to any role he will play right after. He is extremely talented and the chance for Sturgess to shine in the coming years is already assured. I just hope his role in this film is substantial enough to warrant his time and presence. He is certainly leading man material to just be relegated to such supporting roles.

The Hollywood Reporter has published the list of nominees for this year’s People’s Choice Awards.  Nominated for Favorite Drama Movie is ‘21′ starring Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey and directed by Robert Luketic.   The awards show will be broadcast on CBS from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on January 7.

Variety has reported more details about distribution deals for Fifty Dead Men Walking starring Jim Sturgess and Ben Kingsley.    Additional countries with distribution rights are Australia (Village Roadshow), Scandinavia (Svenske), Germany and Austria (ARD Degeto), Spain (Festival Films), Russia (Paradise), Benelux (EFP), Greece (Odeon), Portugal (Lusomundo), Brazil (Imagem Filmes), Poland (Vision), Czech Republic/Slovakia (Intersonic), Hungary (Intersonic), former Yugoslavia (VTI), Romania (Odeon), Middle East (ECS), Turkey (Fida) and South Africa (Ster-KineKor).

TVA acquired Canadian distribution rights via Brighlights during production. HandMade is working with the William Morris Agency to close U.S. rights.  Metrodome Distribution plans a Spring 2009 release for UK.
